Author Consignment

Consignment Policy and Agreement

With hundreds of new titles printed every month, it can be a real challenge for an author to secure shelf space for their new books in a retail store. Rivendell Bookstore is pleased to be able to help support our local authors by offering them the opportunity they deserve for their dedication and efforts to make their published works more easily available to the community.  By offering a consignment program to those authors with self-published and print-on-demand titles, we are not only able to offer our customers a wider variety of books, but also succeed in helping these authors reach more readers.

We prefer to offer our consignment arrangement with authors local to our area, but will definitely consider authors from anywhere in the country. (We're sorry, but at this time, we will not consider consignment books for authors based internationally.)

General Policy Information

Rivendell Bookstore will pay consignors 80% for each consignment book sold. For example, if the retail price of the book is $10, we will pay you $8 for each copy sold

We accept a maximum of 5 copies per title on consignment

We agree to display the consigned books for 90 days (Location of display is at the sole discretion of Rivendell Bookstore staff)

During the consignment period, we may contact you to request additional copies.
You are free to accept or deny such a request. Any additional copies brought in will be
covered under the original 90-day terms

At the end of the 90-day period, you may request to continue the consignment. A staff member will evaluate the sales performance for your book and can accept or deny such request at their discretion

Shortly before your consignment period ends, a Rivendell Bookstore staff member will contact you to discuss arrangements for payment and pick-up of any remaining books. If you are unable to come to the store for pick-up, we can arrange shipping for the unsold books and deduct the shipping charges from your final payment. If no books were sold, the consignor must make payment arrangements for shipping
before the books will be returned

Books that have not been claimed within 30 days following the end of the consignment period will be donated or discarded at our discretion. However, we will make every effort to accommodate a delay in pick-up as long as you stay in touch with us and keep us informed of your plans

Payment for consignments will be made at the time of book pick-up or shipment. If books are left unclaimed your payment will be mailed to the address we have on file for you 30 days after your consignment period ends.
