About the Author

DWDecker is a life-long trumpet player, and a collector of history. In his ninth year with the Los Alamos Big Band, he embarked on this journey to document not only the history, but the story, as told by the original and current members of the Los Alamos Big Band. Mr. Decker's music history is that of a community musician, fulfilling the musical desire after each day's work in his occupational health career. His life-long musical pursuit has taken him through high school and college marching bands, pit orchestras for musicals, ten years as lead trumpet in the volunteer band for Mare Island Naval Shipyard, plank-holder (original founding member) and 15-year member of Solano Community Symphony in Fairfield, California, numerous community bands and local symphonies, and one of his favorites - brass quintets. The joining of music and history has finally come together in the performances of the Los Alamos Big Band, where music and history are being kept alive. After the Los Alamos Big Band celebrated its 30th anniversary, Mr. Decker committed to documenting the Los Alamos Big Band story.
